KARACHI, Feb 11: A shopkeeper was shot dead and two others were injured in an armed attack on a shop in Saddar on Monday night.
The police said that two unidentified assailants, riding on a motorcycle, came to Pak-Iranian Tea Company shop on Shahrah-i-Iraq in Saddar and sprayed those inside the shop with bullets.
The shopkeeper, Mohammed Ramazan, aged 55, and his employee Ehsan Ali, aged 20, and Firdaus, aged 50, who owned a small cabin near the Iranian Tea Company shop, were injured.
They were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced Ramazan dead on arrival.
Ehsan and Firdaus were admitted to the hospital. Firdaus was stated to be in serious condition. Ehsan was reported to be in stable condition as he had received a single bullet in his arm, sources at the hospital said.
Witnesses said that a police mobile, parked close to the shop, sped away from the spot after hearing the gunshots.
The firing created panic at the peak rush hour and people ran for cover, witnesses said.
An official at Saddar police station said that it was not a robbery attempt, as the assailants did not even step inside the shop.
Unidentified assailants stabbed a man to death and dumped his body on a main road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The police said that the victim, Syed Adil Husain, aged 45, had left his home in New Karachi on Sunday evening, but he did not return. Unknown assailants stabbed him to death and they dumped his body on a main road in Block 16 in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, the police said.
The police said that Adil worked as a security guard and had three daughters.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two live in the city on Monday.
A young man died in a road accident on Shahrah-i-Pakistan in the early morning. The police said that Mohammed Ilyas, aged 30, was on his way to the New Sabzimandi on a Suzuki pickup when a van (JE-0395) hit the pickup. As a result of the collision, the pickup overturned, and Ilyas died on the spot. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. The van driver escaped.
An unidentified man died in an hit-and-run accident on Super Highway in the morning.
The police said that the man was run over by a vehicle. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
FIRING: Unidentified persons sprayed bullets on the Town Nazim’s house in Orangi Town Extension on Monday morning.
The police said that Shaikh Mohammed Feroz, the Town Nazim of Orangi Town, had a dispute over some money transactions with a party.
On Monday morning, they had gone to the Nazim’s house where the two parties had an argument. Later, the Nazim’s house came under fire. Shaikh Feroz was not in the house at the time of the firing, the police said.
The Nazim lodged an FIR at Orangi Extension police station.
