KARACHI, Aug 13: Three-year-old bay filly, Safari Queen, is fancied to land the Independence Day Cup at the Summer Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Monday.
Though she has failed to catch the eye in her two previous runs by finishing off the board, her present form suggests that she should return with flying colours by making amends.
She is drawn in a small field of seven contenders in the six-furlong eighth race of the day.
Three-year-old bay colt, Captain Black, and Benish Hasan’s chestnut Moon Raker, are also in contention so do filly Black Girl, who is on course for a hat trick.
A card of nine races, including three cups, has been drawn for the day with five races going over a sprinting distance of five furlongs and four to six. The first race begins at 12noon.
Sea Wave, who seems to be the form horse, should oblige holiday punters by grabbing the Fantastic Face Stakes Cup by getting the better of filly Butter Fly and bay horse, King Of Sanghar. Chestnut Yes Neighbour Yes, a stable-mate of Butter Fly, who is on course for hat trick, can not be overlooked.
Bay filly Miss Milee is tipped to pick up spoils by capturing the KRC Cup. The five furlongs race has 18 horses in fray after acceptance barring last minute withdrawal. She should be chased by chestnut, Sindh Malook and bay colt, Lucky Friend, for the places.
Despite Sunday’s rain the organisers were busy making the track ready for the show.
“We have made the track dry and if it doesn’t rain in the night the programme will be held as per schedule,” a KRC spokesman said on Sunday night.
