BADIN, Aug 7: District Nazim Ali Anwar Halepoto has said that recent rains in the district had brought great relief to the people who had been complaining of an acute shortage of irrigation water.
Talking to newsmen during his visit to a relief centre in the coastal village of Bhugra Memon, he said that there were no reports of any loss or damage from rains from any part of the district.
Still, the district would carry out a survey of the rain-affected areas to assess losses and each affected person would be compensated accordingly, the nazim assured.
The team led by district nazim and DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri visited main villages of the coastal area and announced later that everything was all right. “We take now a sigh of relief as the nature is still on our side,” the nazim remarked.
More than 200 people sheltered at a relief camp in a school in Kadhan complained to the nazim that they had not come willingly. They had to leave their homes for safer places because their area was still inundated, they said.
They demanded that the district make arrangements for draining out rainwater at the earliest so that they could return to their homes. The nazim assured them that they would get all the facilities.
As the rainwater receded and conditions became normal many others who had taken shelter in government buildings in Behdmi, returned to their homes amid fear of rains and thunderstorm, which were forecast up till Thursday.
Meanwhile, the field officer of Hilal-e-Ahmer, Syed Zakir Ali, said that Hilal-e-Ahmer had relief packages ready to be distributed among rain-affected people.
