KARACHI, Aug 7: The town administration of Malir on Sunday night saved three persons from drowning in flood water in Thado Nullah and shifted 250 rain-hit citizens to its relief camps as rain and drain water had inundated their houses.
Malir Town Nazim Ansar Ahmed Sheikh had received information that the Malir River water had inundated adjoining areas near Thado Nullah. On which, the nazim accompanied by others reached the spot, where three area residents had been trapped into the floodwater. After hectic efforts of half an hour they were rescued.
The nazim ordered shifting of other area residents to the town’s relief camps. Under his supervision, 250 rain-affected people were shifted to the relief camps.
Meanwhile, addressing a cheque distribution ceremony, Malir Town Nazim Ansar Ahmed Sheikh said that financial help from Rs10,000 to Rs300,000 would be given to the poor residents of the town for medical treatment.
He said that Rs1.7 million had been distributed among the deserving people under Pakistan Baitul Maal Department’s Food Aid Programme. He asked the deserving people to contact the town administration in this regard.
Naib Town Nazim Sharafat Ali, TMO Munawar Ali Sayal, District In-charge Pakistan Baitul Maal Syed Wasim Akhtar, DO Tahir Iqbal, UC nazims and others also attended the ceremony.—PPI
