Teller flees with Rs5m

TOBA TEK SINGH, July 20: A bank cashier has fled away with Rs5 million cash from his branch in Pirmahal, it is learnt on Thursday.

The district manager of the Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank circle office rang up at the Pirmahal branch to inquire why cash was not being transferred to his branch from the latter place.

He was informed that cashier Amer Shahzad Roohani was deputed by the manager to send daily cash through bank drafts but he allegedly embezzled cash worth Rs5 million and fled away from the town after locking his house.

Circle manager has suspended Pirmahal branch manager Khurshid Jafri from service. — Staff Correspondent
