KARACHI, July 20: Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan has claimed that over two million Pakhtuns have been killed in Afghanistan in the name of jihad and now innocent Pakhtuns are again being killed in the grab of terrorists in tribal agencies due to wrong policies of the establishment.

He said Pakhtuns had no concern with such wars, which could provoke more problems. In his opinion, the Waziristan issue could only be resolved through traditional jirga.

He was talking to party workers at a dinner hosted by party’s Sindh chapter president Shahi Syed at his residence on the return of the ANP delegation from India.

Mr Khan asked people to join the ANP, which was struggling to protect their rights. He also urged political leaders not to work for personal interests and take a unified stand to protect rights of Pakhtuns.

He said his party had been struggling for rights of Pakhtuns for 85 years and it had never compromised on their interests.

About problems being faced by Pakhtuns in Karachi, Mr Khan said the problems faced by Pakhtuns in the city were due to their disunity and internal differences.

However, he said, Pakhtuns were loyal to the soil and their services in different fields for betterment of Karachi could not be ignored.

Earlier, Shahi Syed spoke against demolition of kutchi abadis, police action against transporters and alleged denial of admissions to Pakhtun students in educational institutes in Karachi.

ANP vice-president Imran Afridi, general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Sindh chapter’s general secretary Farooq Bangash and other party leaders was also present on the occasion.
