KARACHI, July 12: Chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional Pir Pagara has cautioned the Muttahida Qaumi Movement that if Mohajirs did not reform themselves, all Sindhis would forge unity as a last resort to push back the MQM in opposition.

“Mohajirs must be mindful of their future… we are their well-wishers and will continue to give them advices,” he added.

Pir Pagara was talking to a group of journalists at his residence, the Kingri House, here on Wednesday after his meeting with a former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who had made a courtesy call “to seek the Pir’s blessings.”

The spiritual leader of the Hur Jamaat recalled that he had once told Liaquat Ali Jatoi, while he was chief minister of Sindh, that if his party would be in power, the share of Mohajirs in the government would be 25 per cent.

When his attention was drawn to a crisis looming large on the Sindh government, Pir Pagara said he could not see any such thing. He was of the view that Sindh, unlike other provinces, had always remained in limelight vis-a-vis politics because of its multi-cultural fabric.

When asked why didn’t he intervene for reconciliation among coalition partners in Sindh in spite of the fact that he commanded great respect among the concerned quarters, Pir Pagara remarked: “If a patient does not come to a doctor, how could the latter prescribe a medicine to the former?”

Pir Pagara expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance of the ‘graduate’ assemblies, and said that the condition of graduation for contesting assembly election had now proved uncalled for.

Commenting on the future of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif after their signing of the ‘Charter of Democracy’, the Pir said a recent ordinance issued by President Pervez Musharraf was a manifestation of Gen Musharraf’s better understanding with Ms Bhutto than Mian Nawaz Sharif.

In reply to another question, he said: “Whoever the prime minister, we have developed a habit over the years to have a military general with us in one form or the other.”

Responding to yet another question, he said it would be far better for Gen Musharraf to have his own party rather than seeking the existing parties’ support for himself.

Pir Pagara said that the Supreme Court had declared PML-F as the real successor of the original Muslim League but he was astonished to see that the PML-Q had decided to commemorate its centenary.
