ISLAMABAD, July 10: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday directed the commerce ministry to work out practical proposals for boosting the exports of the country. Presiding a meeting to review the proposals for the upcoming trade policy, the prime minister asked the ministry to further fine-tune some proposals to make them workable.
A special cabinet meeting has been convened on July 17 to finalise the trade policy followed by its formal announcement by Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan.
A source privy to the meeting told Dawn that the premier also rejected some proposals of the ministry on the grounds that they could not help in increasing exports.
Mr Aziz asked the ministry to come up with some new ideas pertaining to export promotion in the next meeting to be held on Tuesday.
An official announcement said the premier was given a detail presentation by Secretary Commerce Syed Asif Shah on the various aspects of the trade policy.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers for industry, agriculture, health, textile, adviser to prime minister on finance, State Bank governor.
