PESHAWAR, June 28: A local court on Wednesday granted interim pre-arrest bail to a doctor, who is alleged to have removed one of the kidneys of a child without parental consent. The court of additional sessions judge, Zamurad Shah, fixed July 5 for deciding the application of Dr Ali Gohar, who had operated upon the boy at a private hospital. The court also ordered the police to submit all relevant record.

An FIR was registered against the doctor on June 27 after opinion was given by the legal branch of the police. The FIR was lodged by Ziarat Gul, father of the boy Ameenullah.

The complainant had alleged that he had taken his son to the said doctor, who operated upon the boy a few days ago at a private hospital. He alleged that he had taken the boy to a government hospital, where he was informed that the doctor had removed one of his kidneys.

The applicant-doctor refuted the allegations and claimed that an ultra-sound examination of the boy had been conducted by a specialist which showed that one of his kidneys was ‘dead’.

He said that the diagnosis was further confirmed through another ultra-sound examination, which verified the same facts.

The applicant stated that the boy’s father had been informed about the boy’s condition and he had agreed to the removal of the kidney, adding that medical tests supported his assertions.

The NWFP chief minister had announced Rs200,000 for the boy’s treatment besides ordering “strict action” against the doctor. He has also ordered an inquiry.
