Robbers’ gang smashed

TOBA TEK SINGH, June 12: An inter-district gang of robbers involved in dacoities in Lahore, highways and killing of a head constable near Gojra was arrested here on Sunday night rather dramatically. DPO Akhtar Laleka disclosed that the outlaws — Akram Dogar, Latif Ansari and Mahmood Ahmad of Pakpattan and Ghulam Ali of Bahawalnagar had been in hiding at a deserted place near Kamalia to loot vehicles when a police party arrested them.

During initial interrogation, they confessed to having killed Khanewal police head constable Naeem on May 23 near Chaudhry Sugar Mills, Gojra, when he resisted their dacoity bid on board a bus.

The DPO said the accused had also looted a bus on Motorway near Saalim interchange, a departmental store near Kalma Chowk, Lahore, a bakery near the Lahore Jinnah Hospital, a grocery store in Sabzazar, Lahore, a general store near the Lahore hotel besides looting calling cards and cash worth millions from Township, Lahore.

Having contacts with other gangs, they were also involved in dozens of robberies all over the province.

The DPO said two more accomplices of the accused were still at large and police were after them.

The DPO announced a cash prize for the raiding team headed by Kamalia city SHO Ahmad Adnan.
