DHAKA, June 8: A boat carrying 70 passengers capsized in southeastern Bangladesh on Thursday, killing at least 12 people, police said.
The small boat was going from Sandwip island, off the coast near the port of Chittagong, to the town of Sitakundu when it capsized near its destination, said police officer Nazir Hossain.
“The boat was caught in a storm very close to the landing station,” he said, adding that most of those aboard swam ashore.
“We believe that around 10 people are still missing. Rescuers are at the scene and are conducting a search operation,” he said.—APP/AFP
