HYDERABAD, June 8: Sindh Health Secretary Dr Naushad Shaikh has formed a committee to probe into alleged irresponsible attitude of the Larkana police surgeon and MLO of the Chandka Medical College Hospital in conducting post-mortem of Muneer Sangi, a cameraman of a private TV channel.
The committee will be headed by the director-general of the Sindh health services, Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi.
Members of the committee are: Dr Ghulam Hussain Shaikh and Dr Iqbal Pathan.
Dr Hadi Bux said that the inquiry would be conducted in the office of the medical superintendent of the Chandka Medical College on June 13 at 11am.
He appealed to witnesses and other people concerned to get their statements recorded with the inquiry committee in the interest of justice.
WORKSHOP: Mycology is an important subject and it requires a lot of attention towards research on its different aspects that are beneficial for human and other important life forms that exist on the planet.
This was expressed by life scientists at the inaugural session of a workshop on “advances in mycology”.
The workshop was organised by the Institute of Botany of the University of Sindh and Higher Education Commission on Wednesday.
Scholars said that mycology was both friend and foe of humanity and underlined more research for the benefit of human, animal and plant life on the earth.
Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who inaugurated the workshop, urged scientists to come upto expectations of society by their research for the benefit of people.
He called upon scientists to derive maximum benefit from present environment available for higher education and research and added that the HEC was providing all required funds to scholars in furtherance of the objective.
He appreciated the efforts of the Institute of Botany for promotion of knowledge in botany.
Learned mycologist Dr Abdul Ghaffar explored research done by scholars in Pakistan and other universities of the world.
He stressed the need for research on different aspects of mycology.
He called upon senior scholars to provide training to their juniors to carry out research work on this important subject.
He said that universities as well as research organisations should invest on research on different aspects of life sciences including mycology.
The dean of the faculty of natural sciences, Dr M.Y. Khuhawar, highlighted the importance of subject in life sciences and plants.
He said that the Institute of Botany had organised many seminars and workshops for promotion of the subject.
He said that participants of the workshop would not learn only but would also be able to understand and carry out their own research.
The director of Institute of Botany of the University of Sindh, Dr Tahir Rajput said that mycology was a branch of botany that deals with fungi and added that almost every one encounters fungi in daily life.
He said that penicillin was an important drug provided by a fungus and added that apart from medicinal value some destructive activities of different fungal species also create problems.
