TOBA TEK SINGH:A woman was strangled after her scarf got entangled in the fodder machine at village Patoana on Sargodha Road, Jhang, on Monday.

Rescue 1122 says Khanan Bibi (70) was cutting fodder for animals when the accident happened. The woman died on the spot.

In another incident in Jhang, an old man was burnt as a fire broke out in his room at Basti Odanwali, Dabkalan Road, tehsil Shorkot. Rescue 1122 officials identified the man as Muhammad Sadiq (68) who was asleep on a charpoy while an electric heater was placed under it.

The heat led to the fire in the room, burning Sadiq critically. He was shifted to Shorkot THQ Hospital where doctors referred him to the burn unit of Allied Hospital, Faisalabad.

RAPE CASES: A five-year-old girl was raped while a woman was gang-raped in separate incidents in Gojra and Faisalabad.

In the first incident, a man raped a five-year-old girl child at Chak 358-JB, Gojra.

The child’s mother informed the Gojra Saddar police in her FIR that the suspect lured her five-year-old daughter to the washroom of village mosque where she had gone to get free rice being distributed there. He raped her and when she raised alarm, the people reached there but the suspect escaped.

A police spokesperson claimed that the suspect had been arrested.

In the other incident, two men gang-raped a woman at Chak 409-GB of tehsil Tandlianwala, district Faisalabad.

In her FIR registered with Tandlianwala Saddar police, the victim said both the suspects offered her lift in their car when she was on her way to her village. They took her to a house where they raped her. The police arrested both the suspects.

DONATION: The North American Alumni Association (NAAA) has added Rs2.1m to the association endowment’s scholarship for the deserving students of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

The association endowment has reached Rs19 million from which 17 deserving students are benefitting. The NAAA representatives, Dr Asif Maan, Dr Zubair and Dr Muhammad Younas, presented a cheque to UAF Director Research Dr Rao Zahid Abbas and Director Financial Assistance Dr Nazia Ehsan.

The UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Ali applauded the efforts of the association to support students. Dr Amjad Aulak and Assistant Director Waqar Akbar Khan also attended the ceremony.

LIFE TERM: Gojra Additional District and Sessions Judge Abbas Rasool Warraich sentenced an accused to life imprisonment, ordering him to pay Rs800,000 to the heirs of the family of the victim.

According to the prosecution, Mureed Qasim of Chak 347-JB was killed by convict Asad Abbas and others over old enmity seven years back. The case was registered by Nawan Lahore Police.

The convict’s two co-accused were declared as proclaimed offenders by the court and hearing of the case against them would be conducted after their arrest.
