LAHORE, Feb 7: Five matches were decided in the Inter- university boys badminton championship (team event) which started at the Islamia College, Civil Lines, Thursday.
In all, 14 universities from all over the country are taking part in the competitions.
In the only well-contested tie, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad edged out Hamdard University, Karachi 2-1.
Shaharyar of Hamdard University downed Zeeshan in the hard fought first singles 15-11, 13-15, 15-10. Quaid-i-Azam University recovered, winning the doubles and reverse singles to clinch the tie. Zeeshan and Mustaqeem outplayed Shaharyar and Muhammad Ali 15-1, 15-3 in the doubles while Mustaqeem defeated Muhammad Ali 15-2, 15-1.
Gomal University defeated Government College, Lahore 2-0: Abdul Ahad bt Nabeel Akhtar 15-9, 15-0; Waheed-Ataullah bt Rana Imran-Faisal Ratyal 17-15, 17-15.
Mehran Engineering University defeated Islamia University, Bahawalpur 2-0: Muhammad Asif bt Usman Iftikhar 15-5, 15-7; Asif -Shams bt Adnan-Usman 11-15, 15-13, 15-3.
Karachi University thrashed Peshawar University 2-0: Adnan Siddiqui bt Hayatullah 15-0, 15-1; Adnan-Asad Aleem bt Zakir- Ashfaq 15-1, 15-3.
Sir Syed Engineering University, Karachi trounced Engineering University, Taxila 2-0: Naveed bt Rao Inam 15-4, 15- 2; Naveed-Farhan bt Shehzad-Inam 11-15, 15-2, 15-10.
