ISLAMABAD, May 28: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday said that the local government system had been effectively working to provide basic amenities to the people and solving problems at their door steps.
He was talking to a delegation comprising the Rawalpindi City Nazim Javed Ikhlas and nazims of Gujar Khan and Kahuta union councils which met him at the Prime Minister’s House.
The prime minister promised to enhance allocation for development projects and provision of basic amenities to the local governments in the forthcoming budget.
The prime minister said the government had taken adequate measures to provide clean drinking water, gas, electricity and other basic necessities to the people and local government system had been playing an effective role in the provision of these amenities.
Prime Minister Aziz said the government wanted to pass on the benefits of the economic growth to the local governments for the improvement of the living standards of a common man.
Appreciating the contribution of the people particularly the overseas Pakistanis in the rehabilitation of the earthquake victims, the prime minister said the government had expedited the reconstruction in the affected areas to bring the life normal in these areas.—APP
