ISLAMABAD, May 5: The Central Developmental Working Party (CDWP) has approved a project worth Rs469 million submitted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to strengthen and develop the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro.

The project includes construction of buildings for bio- medical engineering department and the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management, besides equipping the existing laboratories.

Additional classrooms, residential units for female students, communal facilities for students and staff, extension of information and communication facilities including the latest online lecture facility using IP based video conferencing will also be a part of the project.

The project aims at strengthening the existing infrastructure and academic facilities and improving the quality of education in already established disciplines.

Through the project, the university will also establish strong linkages with academia, R&D institutions and industry in order to develop a broad-based partnership.

In order to enhance human resource development, 20 students will be sent abroad for PhD studies after qualifying an HEC organised national level test. The students will be appointed as faculty members on completion of their doctorate programmes.
