KARACHI, April 21: Deputy Speaker Raheela Tiwana said on Friday that shelter homes would be established for street-children which would function 24-hours a day to provide them accommodation.

She was addressing a programme held here at the Sindh Assembly Building to mark the “Earth Day” to be observed on Saturday worldwide.

The programme, arranged by the Initiator Human Development Foundation (IHDF), was attended largely by students and less-privileged children besides people from different walks of life.

Tiwana said effective policies have been put in place to maintain a healthy environment for all, particularly, the new generation which is responsible for future of our country.

“Start any campaign for protection of environment, you will find me standing along with you,” she remarked.

President IHDF, Rana Asif Habib stressed on working individually as well as collectively for preservation of nature.

He invited people to make a pledge to rid the earth of pollution, poverty and violence. Rana Asif said to keep atmosphere pollution free a number of measures are needed to be taken which include fixation of filter in the vehicles, provision of clean drinking water, etc.

Children on the occasion lighted candles and sang songs to mark the Earth Day.—APP
