PESHAWAR, April 20: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has set targets for its different wings to curb human trafficking, according to officials.

Sources in the passport circle here said that FIA zonal offices in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar had been directed to prepare ‘Red Book’ of most wanted human traffickers and increase the arrest of smugglers and their agents in 2006 ‘by 25 per cent.’.

The FIA decided to improve by 50 per cent surveillance on the Pakistan-Iran border in the Chagai district to curtail human smuggling through Mand Billo and Taftan regions.

The Karachi zone was also tasked to reduce illegal immigration to European countries and Oman via Iran from Balochistan ‘by 20 and 25 per cent’, respectively.

For crime and corporate circles one raid per month per zone was the target set by the FIA headquarters, which also includes finalisation of all cases and conviction of under-trial prisoners.

The corporate circle has been asked to enlist pending cases pertaining to counterfeit currency and identify proclaimed offenders and arrest them.
