LAHORE, March 18: Haroon Raheem and Mrs Parveen Sheikh have been honoured by organisers of the All Pakistan tennis tournament who dedicated men and ladies singles trophies to their names. The tournament is starting at Bagh-i-Jinnah courts from Monday.
Haroon and Parveen are the best known men and ladies players of this country. Tournament Director Rashid Malik said at a press conference on Saturday that the decision was taken to honour two great tennis players who earned laurels for the country.
Rashid said three Indian players sent their entries. They are Vinod Kumar, Avinash and Amrat Raj.
Top seeds Aqeel Khan, Aasim Shafik and Jalil Khan were included among 75 players taking part in the men’s singles event.
He said the players attending camp would go through their practice in the morning session and play matches in the afternoon. Rashid said that a total cash prize of Rs700,000 will be at stake.
He said 32 women including Sara Mahboob, Mariam Rahim, Quratul Ain, Beenish and Mehak Khokar had also confirmed the entries.
A record 64 entries were received for the boys Under-17 category, he added.
