SWAT: The 116th birth anniversary of Miangul Abdul Haq Jahanzeb, the last ruler of former Swat state, was celebrated here on Wednesday.
A function to this effect was held at Wadudia Hall.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted that the last ruler of Swat established educational institutions throughout the former Swat state, demonstrating his commitment to education and development.
At the ceremony, Wali Swat awards and cash prizes were distributed among top schools in recognition of their outstanding performance in the field of education.
The participants included royal family members, including Miangul Amirzeb Shehryar, Zebunisa Jilani, additional deputy commissioner Swat Hameed Buneri, director Khpal Kor Foundation Mohammad Ali, and students from various educational institutions.
Awards were presented to teachers, principals and students of Government Girls High School, Madyan, Government Higher Secondary School, Fatehpur, Government Postgraduate Jehanzeb College, Saidu Sharif, SRI Community Model School, Gato Sar, SRI Community Model School, Khwar Gary, and SRI Community Model School, Zarai Sar.
An award was also given to the Swat jail superintendent.
Speaking on the occasion, Hameed Buneri said the NGO Swat Relief Initiative had started a commendable step of awarding the community members for their outstanding performances in different spheres of life.
SRI chairperson Zebu Jilani highlighted Wali Swat’s contributions to education, noting that he established educational institutions across Swat and built a model state.
“Apart from health and communication, education was the top priority of the former Swat state rulers, especially Miangul Jehanzeb. The visible advancements made in education and health during his period attest to the ruler’s dedication to his people, as he constructed educational institutions even on mountaintops,” she said.
She assured that the mission of the late Swat ruler would continue through SRI, pledging ongoing support for the community.
Students from different schools also presented cultural songs on the occasion.
