JACOBABAD, March 12: Three murder cases were decided in the Adam Panhwar village on Sunday by a Charbeli , a jirga in which the accused walk on embers to prove their guilt or innocence.
District Naib Nazim Mir Changez Khan Panhwar supervised the jirga. Abdul Sattar Jatoi and Imam Bux Jeeho, accused in the murder case of Bashir Ahmad Sarki 10 years ago, walked barefooted on embers.
Their feet were checked by putting blood of a slaughtered goat. The jirga pronounced them innocent as no swelling was found on their feet.
The murder case of Hafeez was also decided by the jirga. Hafeez had been killed five years ago in the Dargahi village in the Garhi Yasin taluka, Shikarpur.
Mohammad Tarin, accused in the case, was pronounced innocent after he had walked on embers.
Shafi Mohammad Rahoojo, accused in the murder case of Araz Mohammad Rahoojo, who had been killed five years ago in the Jagan village in Shikarpur, also proved himself innocent by walking on embers.
Thousands of people attended the Charbeli.
The rival groups accepted the jirga decision and embraced each other. They also distributed sweets. Talking to journalists, Changez Khan said that he had to hold such jirgas on consent of parties to stop bloodshed between rival groups.
