PESHAWAR, March 12: The government has allocated Rs545.9 million for completion of 78 health schemes in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
The government had allocated Rs81.885 million for 14 new health projects and Rs64.015 million for 64 ongoing schemes in the 2005-6 Annual Development Programme for the region, sources in the Fata health directorate told APP here on Sunday.
A blood bank at Khar would be opened soon, they said.
They said the government planned to open 10 civil dispensaries in Tirah and four in the Peshawar Frontier region during the current year. Dispensaries would also be constructed in Kurram Agency and Kohat Frontier Region, they said.
“The federal government has chalked out a strategy to set up 12 civil dispensaries in North Waziristan,” they said. Likewise, three dispensaries would be established in the Lakki Marwat Frontier Region, they said.
A civil hospital will be constructed at Makin in South Waziristan.
An official said the government was focussing on completion of major ongoing projects of Health and Nutrition Education Programme, eye care services in agency headquarters hospitals and Aids Control Programme in the tribal areas.
He said final touches were being given to five community health centres and a nursing school in Bajaur Agency, which would start functioning during the current financial year.
The schemes scheduled to be completed in the current fiscal year included 24 community health centres and improvement of basic health units in Mohmand Agency, he said.
In Khyber Agency, he said, renovation of agency headquarters hospital in Landi Kotal and construction of outpatient department for women would be completed.
Health facilities in the Peshawar Frontier region would be consolidated, besides rehabilitation of the AHQ hospital in Parachinar, Kurram Agency, he said. He said at least four child health care centres would be opened in Orakzai Agency.
He said upgrading of Razmak Civil Hospital in South Waziristan to category B and construction of a doctor’s hostel in Miramshah AHQ Hospital in North Waziristan would be completed soon.
The government had completed two community health centres in the Lakki Marwat Frontier Region and impr-
oved the basic health units, he said.
The official said the government would establish 10 community health centres, two basic healthy units and residences for doctors in the AHQ hospital in South Waziristan.—APP
