LAHORE, March 11: Three-year-old colt, Namroud, looks set to lift the Mohy-ud-Din Mohammad Aurangzeb Alamgir Cup to be gone over 1200m during the Lahore Winter Meeting held at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The bay colt from Stranger In Paradise out-of-Neptune Darling, Namroud is contesting in the sixth race, a class V division I handicap race in a field to be contested by seven contenders barring last-minute withdrawals.

He has been showing a very consistent performance, winning two races and placed second twice in his four previous outings.

His closest rivals could be Owais Dream and Queen Of Saba.

Four-year-old bay filly, Bakers’ Gal, who was beaten by Miss Pole on Jan 1 last, should make amends and win the eighth race of the day.

She is appearing in a class IV division II handicap race over the sprinting distance of 1000m to be contested by six runners.

Fidel Castro and Red Hot Fire should fight for the less remunerative positions.

There are 13 contestants in the seventh event, a class IV division III handicap race to be gone over 1000m

On recent form and handicap three of them come into reckoning.

They are: Miss Photogenic, Green Street and Big Bird. They should fight it out. The man in the saddle will matter the most.

Three-year-old filly, Late Arrival, who in her last outing ran off the frame, now looks ready for the fray in the fifth race, class V division I-B.

Though pitched against seasoned and speedy animals, this daughter of Power Base out-of-Rosina Folly, should put up an improved showing true to her bloodline ability. Her company is not as tough as that of last time.

Unter, Rough Tough and the old guy, Love Moon should fight for the frame. In the fourth race three-year-old filly, Royal Power, will be on course for achieving a hat-trick of victories. She has already won two races in-a-row.

Eye Of The Tiger, First Passion and Cobbler should be her challengers.

Four-year-old filly Scarlet Empress and Royal Gambler are the pick of ten contestants in the third race to be contested over 1200m. The distance goes in favour of the former.

The first and second races are full of speedy contestants numbering 13 and 12, respectively. They may provide both thrills and shrills for the backers.

Meanwhile a big competition between three jockeys is ensuing to win supremacy in the saddle-craft and the jockeys championship for the on-going Lahore season.

Jockey M. Hanif, Shahid Rehman and M. Zeeshan are at the top three positions in the jockey’s performance table.

Hanif is leading with 31 wins, and close on his heels are Shahid Rehman with 29 wins and M. Zeeshan with 27 wins.

On the trainers statics table veteran trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar leads with 21 victories.

He is being followed by A. B. Malik and Sohail Aziz with 17 each. The other trainers are nowhere in sight nor are there any chances for them to reverse the order with only a few meetings left.

A card of eight races has been drawn for the afternoon programme in a relaxed atmosphere due to the ban on kite-flying on Basant festival on Sunday.

The first race will be held at 12.30pm.
