Lawyer’s ‘killer’ nabbed

KASUR, March 11: The police on Saturday arrested the killer of senior lawyer Abdul Khaliq Qureshi from a village near here three days after the incident. Investigating officers DSP Malik Manzoor and Inspector Israr Shah told Dawn that accused Mansha had admitted to committing the crime.

According to the DSP, the accused told police that the late Mr Qureshi had been representing him in a civil case over a land dispute. The accused suspected that Mr Qureshi was delaying a verdict on the case.

The accused said he took Mr Qureshi to the dera of Mian Shaukat Ali near Raiwind where he had an argument with him over the dispute and shot him dead. He threw the body near a water channel in Sundar police limits with the help of his father-in-law and his servants.

The father-in-law of the accused was arrest two days ago.

According to an FIR, Advocate Qureshi was kidnapped by accused Mansha and his father-in-law on the evening of March 6 (Monday) from his chamber. His bullet-riddled body was spotted by some passers-by the next morning who informed police.

GANG BUSTED: A gang of dacoits was arrested after an encounter on Saturday at Kot Radha Kishan.

DPO Ahmad Mubin told journalists that a team was formed on a secret information about the presence of dacoits. When the police party reached their hideout, the dacoits opened fire which was retaliated. Police arrested ring leader Ditto and his four accomplices after an hour’s encounter.

He said the gang was also wanted by Okara and Faisalabad police in cases of dacoity and murder.

KITE FLYING: In an anti-kite flying campaign, police have arrested more than a hundred people, registered cases against 25 and released 45 teenagers.

The police made announcement through mosques and loudspeakers on their vehicles about reimposition of a ban on kite flying.
