Young man shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 16: A young man was shot dead near Quaidabad on Tuesday.

Police said Sher Zaman, aged 30, a tannery worker, was shot in a factory allegedly by Babar and Hameed. The assailants seemed to be a relation of Sher Zaman. The assailants escaped, police said.

The victim was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police could not immediately ascertain the motive behind the killing.

BODY EXHUMED: Police exhumed the body of a woman in Surjani Town on a clue provided by her son-in-law.

Police said Shakila lodged a complaint with police that her mother, Samra, aged 55, had been missing for several days, and that her husband, Sharif, had threatened to kill her mother.

Police arrested the suspect, Sharif, who confessed that on Oct 11 he, with an accomplice, kidnapped his mother-in-law in Sultanabad, killed her and buried her in Yousuf goth in Surjani Town.

Sharif said he took revenge from his mother-in-law for destroying his family life.

Police said earlier the couple had separated, and Shakila had been living at her mother’s house.

ACID ATTACK: A man threw acid on his wife in Orangi Extension. Police said Zareena, aged 40, suffered burns when her husband, Mohammed Shoaib, threw acid on her in their house in Mansoor Nagar, Orangi Extension. The woman had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Doctors said Zareena suffered 17 per cent burns.

Police said Shoaib was Zareena’s second husband. She had a young daughter by her first husband. On Tuesday, the couple had a quarrel and Shoaib threw acid on his wife and escaped.

Police registered a case against Shoaib.
