CHITRAL, Feb 26: District Food Controller Rauf Aman raided sugar whole-sellers’ shops in Chitral city and recovered hundreds of bags of sugar stored there.

The official said that the seized sugar would be distributed among retailers for sale at the public on the controlled rate of Rs36 per kilogram.

He said that hoarding and profiteering would not be allowed, adding that traders had stocked large quantities of sugar before the closure of Lowari Pass in December 2005. There was no justification to raise the price of the commodity, he said.

Mr Aman said that the hunt to recover the hoarded sugar would continue till the opening of the Lowari Pass, which will be opened by the first week of April.—Correspondent
