SUKKUR, Feb 2: The additional AIGP of Sukkur region, Nayyar Husnain, has hoped that after the separation of watch and ward, investigation and prosecution, the police will show a better performance and the problems of the people will be lessened.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he said that under the new police reforms the Sukkur range police stood abolished, and it had become a police region with seven districts under it.
He said that specialized units would be entrusted with the investigation of major offences like murders, kidnappings and would have better facilities like fore sink, finger prints, and DNA test for early detection of the criminals. Minor offences would be taken by the police stations, he added.
He said that a murder case took Rs20,000 expenditure for investigation, which a police officer could not afford. Therefore, the federal government had allocated Rs1.95 billion for investigation purposes, and Sindh would receive its share with in next 15 days.
He said that the duty of an SHO would be to register FIRs, prevent crimes in his area, and maintain law and order. Major cases would be transferred to the investigators who would not be given over 4 such cases in a month because it would be impossible for them to tackle more than 4 cases in such a limited period, he added.
The AIGP said that experienced officers were placed in the new set up so that they could fulfill the expectations of the people. A system of check and balance would be introduced in the form of the safety commission, and the police complaint authority, which would judge the police role from all angles.
The AIGP said in past ocular methods were adopted for investigation, but now investigations would be done on scientific lines and maximum facilities would be provided to the teams to get better results. Each team would be headed by an ASI, two cops and a head cop, he added.
Answering a question he said that police had come under the Nazim, who was responsible for law and order, but he would not have a say in police promotions, transfers and posting, he added.
DIG (Operations) Syed Mushtaq Shah, DPO Din Muhammad Baloch and other police officers were also present at the press conference.
