SAHIWAL, Feb 8: Farid Town police claimed to have arrested two accused in the murder cases of a UC nazim and Chichawatni PML-N youth wing president after a lapse of three and a half years.

A dismissed head constable and eight other accused in the cases are still at large.

Reports said on July 7, 2002, UC Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Bhullar had come to the surgical ward of DHQ hospital to inquire after a councillor, Muhammad Ali, where his political rival Irshad Kamboh opened fire, killing Mr Bhullar on the spot. In retaliation by the supporters of Mr Bhullar, PML-N leader Iftikhar Kamboh — Irshad’s nephew — was killed.

Police had registered two cases against 11 people who were identified as Shahzad, Baba, Bashir Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed, Shahbaz Ali, dismissed head constable Maqsood Ahmed, Muhammad Ilyas, Muhammad Yaseen and Irshad Kamboh under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the PPC.

Accused Muhammad Yaseen had reportedly been arrested by the police on Feb 5, 2005. Two POs arrested on Monday night were identified as Shahbaz Ali and Muhammad Ilyas of Kamboh group. The police had arrested them from the outhouse of a farmer in Chak 96/6-R.

TWO INJURED: Two members of a family were injured by the firing of dacoits on Tuesday night.

Reports said some gangsters entered the house of Muhammad Shafiq Anjam and collected cash and valuables worth Rs0.25 million. Meanwhile, his brother Latif offered resistance on which the dacoits opened fire, injuring him and Shafiq’s wife Farzana.

Police have registered a case.
