LAHORE, Jan 25: Pakistan will face Jordan on Feb 22 in the 14th Asian Cup Football qualifiers (Group-C) at Al-Hussein Youth City Amman International Stadium. In the past, Jordan, ranked among the top six teams of Asia, had won all the six matches against Pakistan. Winner of Pan Arab Games 1997 and 1999, used to play in West Asian Championship, organized by the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), with Iraq, Palestine, Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
Jordan have never qualified for World Cup finals, have improved since Egyptian head coach Mahmoud Al Jawhari took over in 2002 and with him they made their first Asian Cup in 2004.
The first international match between Pakistan and Jordan was held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during 9th Asian Cup qualifiers (Group-B), in 1988 with Pakistan losing 1-0.
Four years later, Jordan won 2-0 during first Jordan Cup 1992 at Amman.
The 1994 World Cup qualifiers saw Jordan winning both the matches, the first 3-1 and second 5-0.
Jordan continued their dominance over Pakistan by winning the Asian Cup qualifiers in 1996 (4-0) and in 2000 (5-0).
Pakistan will play other away matches against Oman (Sept 6) and UAE (Nov 15). The schedule of Pakistan’s three home matches are UAE (March 1), Oman (Aug 16) and Jordan (Oct 11).
