Convincing victory for Windies U-19

KARACHI, Jan 20: West Indies teenagers got off to a fine start to their tour when they convincingly beat Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) XI U-19 by 36 runs in a warm-up match at National Stadium on Friday despite fine all-round show by Yasim Murtuza.

Skipper Yasim first took two wickets with his left arm spin and later cracked an attractive 51 off 49 balls with eight boundaries and a six.

Barbados medium pacer Kemar Roach snapped up three wickets for 44 runs in his ten overs to cause the slide in PCB XI as they were bowled out for 202 in 47.5 overs. Saadullah Ghouri hit eight boundaries for his 47 off 60 balls.

Yasim and Hafiz Zohaib added 59-runs for the 9th wicket after PCB XI slumped to 130 for eight wickets. Zohaib’s 25 included two boundaries.

Earlier inserted to bat first, West Indies mustered 238 for eight wickets in their 50 overs. The opening pair of William Perkins and Richard Ramdeen gave their side a flying start of 73 runs.

Ramdeen (38), Kieron Pollard (38) and Shamarh Brooks (35) were the major contributors for the visitors. Ramdeen hit five fours in his 68 balls while Pollard knock came off just 42 deliveries and it was laced with two boundaries and as many sixes.

Brooks also produced fine allround show, hitting an enterprising 38 and chipping in with two wickets with his right arm leg spin.

West Indies will now take on Pakistan U-19 in the first One-day International on Sunday at the same venue.
