KHAIRPUR, Jan 1: Newly-elected president of the Khairpur District Bar Association, Sher Mohammad Shaikh and senior vice-president Abdul Qayoom Shaikh have termed federal government’s campaign in favour of the Kalabagh dam as violation of the Constitution.

They were talking to reporters here on Sunday.

They claimed that a majority of lawyers in Sindh was against the Kalabagh dam.

They demanded a round-table conference of all lawyers of the country be called to discuss major issues of the country, including the Kalabagh dam.

The two lawyers vowed to play their role against karo-kari and violation of human rights in the district.

Earlier, annual elections of the Khairpur DBA were held on Saturday.

Abdul Qayoom Shaikh was elected as the senior vice president, Shafqat Ali Mahesar (general secretary), Karim Bux Kubar (joint secretary), Anwar Ali Shah (information secretary), Javed Mirani (treasurer) and Ms Khursheed Abbas Dasti (joint secretary).

It may be mentioned that Sher Mohammad Shaikh, Yasir Arafat Shar and Mohammad Younus Channar were elected unopposed as president, library secretary and auditor respectively.
