KARACHI: Arbab visits central jail

KARACHI, Jan 1: The Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, on Sunday said steps were being taken to ensure provision of necessary facilities to prisoners in Sindh’s jails on priority basis. The chief minister said this during his surprise visit to the Karachi Central Jail, read a statement.

Arbab reviewed work at the under-construction mosque in the jail and directed the chief engineer Karachi Buildings for the project’s timely completion.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the progress and quality of work, he directed to black list the project’s contractor. The mosque is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs6.7 million.

Chief Minister Arbab had laid the foundation stone of the mosque on April 25, 2005.

He also visited the ward of handicapped prisoners and directed the jail administration to ensure provision of blankets and hygienic food to the prisoners.—APP
