ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: Pakistan and China enjoy a unique and multifaceted relationship and both have agreed to enhance cooperation in the utilization of nuclear energy for peaceful purpose.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said this while talking to Sun Qin, chairman of China’s Atomic Energy Authority, who called on him at Chashma soon after the concrete pouring ceremony of Chashma-2 on Wednesday.
The premier said that cooperation with China in peaceful use of nuclear technology would increase so that Pakistan could meet its growing energy requirements necessitated by the fast economic growth.
He said that Sino-Pakistan cooperation in the field of defence would also enhance in the days ahead and noted that China was co-producing JF-17 fighters with Pakistan.
Terming the Karakoram Highway a symbol of the Sino-Pakistan friendship, he said the volume of bilateral trade had increased manifold with the signing of the early harvest agreement.
He noted that over 100 Pakistani students had gone to China for studies and said they would form a bridge of understanding between the two countries.
He appreciated the Chinese assistance for rehabilitating quake victims.
