ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday assured lawyers that the government would consider their suggestion about constitutional amendments, uniformity in the retirement age of judges and for increasing the strength of the Supreme Court so as to do away with the appointment of ad hoc judges.
The president was talking to a Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) delegation which offered support for the construction of dams and water reservoirs and cooperation to help build consensus on the issue.
SCBA president Malik Muhammad Qayyum headed the delegation. Law Minister Wasi Zafar attended the two-hour meeting.
The issues discussed included the murder case of lawyer Saleem Saigol, a welfare fund for apex court lawyers, medical facilities for the SCBA members, provision of a plot for the construction of a judicial complex in Islamabad and establishment of a law commission.—APP
