Handicap proves match-winner

LAHORE, Dec 20: Five goals by Saqib Khan Khakwani supported by a half-goal handicap helped Pearl Pure Water (PPW) beat Guard Filters 6 1/2-6 in Harvester Services Polo Cup on Tuesday.

Guard made a fine start scoring two goals in the first chukker to lead 2- 1/2. Taimur Ali Malik, who scored four goals struck his first followed by Taimur Mawaz Khan.

Guard remained in front 3- 2 1/2 in the second chukker. Saqib struck his first, converting a 40-yard penalty hit while Ahmed Zubair reduced the margin further. Taimur Ali scored his second for the losers.

PPW came ahead for the first time 5 — 1/2-4 in the third chukker by adding three goals against one they conceded. Saqib scored all three to complete his tally.

Taimur Mawaz struck the solitary goal for the losers. Guard again gained the lead (6-5 1/2) when Taimur Ali pumped in back-to-back goals in the beginning of the fourth chukker.

But Saqib came to rescue PPW by scoring his fifth goal, converting a 30-yard penalty hit, to seal the fate of the match.

Three goals by Bilal Hayee helped Learning Alliance carve out a win against The Collectibles 5 1/2-3. Junaid Ahmad and Usman Hayee added a goal each for the winners, who had a half goal handicap.

For the losers, Umar Sadik (2) and Agha Murtaza Ali Khan (1) were the scorers.
