Czech surgeons sew back nose

PRAGUE, Dec 12: Czech surgeons sewed back the nose of an 11-year-old boy after it had been bitten off by a dog and remained in its stomach for two hours, Czech papers said on Monday.

Surgeons claim the operation is unique.

The successful 11-hour operation was carried out at the hospital after a neighbour’s dog attacked the boy on November 17.

Vets had to operate first to recover the nose from the dog’s stomach. The hospital then had to weigh up the risks of operating.

The nose was in a poor state and the risks of infection were increased after being in the dog’s stomach.—AFP
