KARACHI, Dec 5: An international NGO on Monday urged the world community to donate generously for the rehabilitation of quake victims. Speaking at a press conference, president-elect of the Rotary International, William B Boyd, said though the world community had come forward to help, the disaster was so big that a lot more was needed to rehabilitate the victims.

Giving some details of his organization’s efforts in the relief work for quake victims, he said that it had raised over $5 million for the rehabilitation work, and over 20,000 tents, blankets, sleeping bags, shelter boxes, warm clothes, medical supplies etc, had been dispatched to and distributed in the earthquake hit areas.

Mr Boyd arrived in the country on Friday from New Zealand on a four-day visit to get first hand information about the earthquake and the subsequent relief and rehabilitation efforts being made in those areas.

During his stay in the federal capital, the Rotary International chief called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and apprised him of the efforts being made by his organization globally to collect resources and also locally to distribute the relief goods to the affected areas.
