KARAK, Jan 26: The District Nazim on Friday inaugurated the newly-constructed bus stand here. A large number of people took out a rally and blocked the main artery to protest against the shifting of bus stand to new premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the district Nazim, Mohammed Sharif Khattak, said with the construction of the bus stand, the district council had been able to resolve a three-year-old issue. He said the agreement to construct the stand had been reached during the tenure of the previous government.

The Nazim hoped that with the shifting of the bus stand, the surrounding villages would also benefit by way of development. He said the municipal committee would also earn a handsome amount of revenue generated through the stand.

Meanwhile, protesters led by Omar Khitab marched through the streets and blocked the main road for over one hour in protest against the shifting of the bus stand. Carrying placards inscribed with slogans, the protesters raised slogans against the district Nazim and district council.

The speakers said the bus stand had been shifted to a place far away from the city. They said the previous and present governments could not shift the stand due to opposition by the local citizens. They accused the district Nazim of hurting the interests of the people and threatened to lay siege to the district council if the decision to shift bus stand was not withdrawn.
