KASUR: The district administration claimed on Saturday to have removed encroachments from two busy points in the city in the larger interest of the public.
The initiative had been taken at a time when rain was playing havoc and vendors and small shopkeepers were facing hardships due to bad weather, However, the administration was reluctant to take any action against the municipal committee officials who let the people encroach after allegedly receiving bribes.
The operation had added an insult to the injuries of the vendors who were not finding buyers due to harsh weather conditions. The administration had not given them any alternative place in the city to make their livelihood.
According to a press release, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Muhammad Arshad Bhatti who is currently administrator of municipal committee after the expiry of district council, launched an anti-encroachment drive at Kot Murad Khan and Shafiwala Chowk, on Saturday.
The press release said the team removed illegal sale points and took away various stalls, benches, counters, push carts and steel shades (projections) with them.
It also mentioned on behalf of Mr. Bhatti that the drive would create space for the motorists and pedestrians on both sides of the road and also add to the beauty of the city.
