KARACHI, Jan 25: The measures for beautification of Karachi coast, improvement of roads, elimination of encroachments, and fire-fighting arrangements were reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro here on Friday.
The meeting was attended, among others, by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, principal secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, Vice- Chairman of PERK Shahid Firoz, DHA Administrator Brig Asif Ghazali, DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, Secretary of Local Government, Qamaruzzaman and officials of KPT and DHA.
The meeting decided to improve and beautify the Clifton beach on war footing and in this regard the DHA and the City Government would make joint efforts.
The governor stressed on elimination of encroachments, provision of toilets and provision of better recreational facilities in the project. He also laid stress on early completion of Bagh Ibne Qasim.
Brig Asif Ghazali briefed the meeting about the project of upgrading of Sunset Boulevard and removal of encroachments from the road. The project will be completed by the end of June 2002 at a cost of Rs 40 million.
On the occasion steps were considered for improvement of Boulevard extension.
Governor Mohammedmian Soomro called for making the fire-fighting facilities in the city more effective.
He took serious notice of defective fire-fighting and security arrangements in certain multi-storeyed buildings and hotels and issued directives to concerned authorities to take better measures on this count.
He also issued instructions for improved fire-fighting arrangements at the port and oil installations.
The governor stressed the need for clearing the roads, thoroughfares and footpaths of encroachments throughout the province and said that right of way be ensured.—APP
