ABBOTTABAD, Nov 20: The Al Khidmat Foundation has set a target of building 100,000 houses in the earthquake-affected areas. It has so far distributed relief goods worth Rs1.5 billion among disaster victims.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, AKF president Shabbir Ahmed Khan MNA said that currently 55 relief camps of the AKF “are working in the NWFP and Azad Kashmir through which goods are distributed”.

It has now planned to constitute Al Khidmat committees at village level with eight members to keep the relief operation going.

He praised the goodwill gesture of different donors who had given to Al Khidmat medicines valued at Rs180 million.

He said the Jamaat-backed charity had decided to build low-cost houses in phases, with 10,000 units planned to be constructed in the first phase at an estimated cost of Rs30 million. The building material will shortly be supplied to the affected areas and work will start soon, he added.
