SUKKUR, Nov 19: Panic gripped inmates of the Central Jail-I Sukkur, following a bomb blast outside the jail on Saturday evening damaging the outer boundary wall of the prison.

No human loss or escape of any prisoner was, however, reported.

A huge bomb blast took place on the backyard of the jail damaging its outer wall.

The explosion caused panic among the inmates.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and cordoned the entire area and conducted house-to-house search but no arrest was made.

The DPO of Sukkur, Aftab Halepoto, along with the officials of the bomb disposal squad, also reached on the spot and inquired about the blast.

When contacted, the DIG Prison, Sukkur, Major (retd) Ghulam Hussain Khoso, said that the bomb was of local origin weighing five pounds and was remote-controlled.

Terming the blast an act of terrorism, he made it clear that terrorists would never succeed in their nefarious designs.

He said that terrorists had earlier attacked the residential colony of the jail staff to create harassment but failed to achieve their target.

He said that today’s bomb blast was also aimed at to create harassment but “we will never bow their pressure”.
