LAHORE: Former hockey Olympian Gulraiz Akhtar, who died on Monday, was laid to rest here.

Gulraiz was a member of the Pakistan team, which won gold medal at the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games.

Gulraiz, 78, as left-half of Pakistan scored one to help Pakistan win the Olympics in 1968. He was also a member of the national team that won gold medal at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.

Gulraiz married Chand Parveen, who is deputy director sports in Sports Board Punjab.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey Federation president retired Brig Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and secretary Asif Bajwa, Olympians Manzoor Junior, Khawaja Junaid and DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh and many others condoled the sad demise of Gulraiz.
