KARACHI, Nov 12: Teaching of Sindhi Salees (simple) at intermediate level in colleges during the current academic session is not likely to be introduced, said sources in the Sindh education department.
Talking to Dawn, officials expressed the view that after the withdrawal of a set of notifications pertaining to implementation of a new scheme of studies, which was approved by the federal government for first year classes in colleges, the chances of Salees Sindhi teaching have diminished at least for this year.
The possibility of any fresh move now depended on the observations and recommendations of a broad-based committee, comprising senior educationists and intellectuals and education officials from the department and educational boards, which would start work shortly after its approval by the chief minister, said another source.
The Sindh education department had issued a notification recently in line with a decision taken at the highest level in the province last week, which superseded at least five notifications issued between Sept 27 and Oct 21 on the issue of a new scheme of studies.
After the latest notification, the situation which existed prior to Sept 27 would be restored in colleges as far as teaching of Sindhi Salees is concerned. We would have to wait for sometime for new directives and line of action supposed to be given by the education department for Sindhi subject teaching in colleges, said senior teachers of colleges.
