SAHIWAL: The Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education Department has established five literacy centres at the Sahiwal Central Prison to impart education to inmates of all age groups.

Deputy Commissioner Babir Bashir visited the prison and distributed books and other material to inmates.

DLO Shazia Iqbal told Dawn a three-month courses would be run by instructors who would teach the prisoners basics of English, Urdu, and math. “Each participant will have to appear in the final exam. After the evaluation, candidates would be provided certificates,” she said. Covid-19 SOPs will be followed in classes.
