KARACHI, Jan 23: The city government has decided to organize civil defence at public level.

The decision was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Nazim Karachi, Naimatullah Khan.

It was decided that the district officer (general), Col Ehteshamuddin, will coordinate on behalf of the city government with other civic organizations, NGOs and social workers and take necessary steps for guidance of other organizations.

It was decided that in view of importance of civil defence, cooperation of experienced persons will be obtained for coordination with all Towns and the civil defence will be organised at councillors level.

It was also decided that all towns will provide a list of such experienced persons who are not only experienced but also associated with fire brigade and education departments.

Besides, various civil defence-related training programmes will be started with the cooperation of NGOs.

It was decided that emergency centres will be set up in various parts of the city which would coordinate with town and union councils during any emergency and maintain an all-time contact with the people deployed on warden posts.

An informative booklet will also be published to provide maximum information to the people about civil defence.

Nazim Karachi directed the civil defence department to maintain a full-fledged contact with essential organizations and more particularly during an emergency situation.—APP
