PESHAWAR, Oct 24: A condolence meeting of the NWFP chapter of the Fulbright Alumni was held on Sunday at the University of Peshawar. The Fulbright Alumni expressed their deepest shock at the loss of their beloved peer, Dr Hamidullah, Professor of Geology and Director National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar.
Prof Hamidullah was President of the Fulbright Alumni’s NWFP chapter.
He died in a helicopter crash while delivering relief goods to earthquake victims in Bagh, Azad Kashmir. He was buried on Oct 17 in his hometown Mazara, Shabqadar, Charsadda.
His sudden death has been widely condoled by friends and colleagues from the University of Peshawar and the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad and the community of his native area.
He belonged to a respectable, religious and scholarly family.
He was a great scholar on earth and environment sciences. He was closely involved in efforts to bring harmony and peace in the world.
During the last few months of his life, he worked day and night for preparing a PC I for strengthening the Centre of Excellence in Geology at Peshawar.
After hectic efforts and meetings with the officials of the HEC and the Planning Commission, he was successful in getting a grant of more than Rs650 million for the purpose.
