PESHAWAR, Oct 24: NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has stressed the need for extending generous support to institutions engaged in looking after and imparting education to special children to make them useful citizens of society.
Talking to a delegation of the management personnel and teachers of the Mohammad Azam Khan Special Education Centre, Charsadda; who had called on him at the Governor’s House here on Monday, the governor said it was a humane issue which demanded constant efforts and resources.
Mohammad Azam Khan, patron-in-chief of the institution, who is also a former chief secretary of the NWFP, led the delegation which was also accompanied by 20 deaf children.
The children recited the national anthem and Hamd.
The governor said that institutions like this were rendering tremendous service towards society.
He assured to make every possible effort to generate financial resources for the centre, and added that each of us must extend sincere services voluntarily.
Appreciating the performance of the centre, the governor particularly mentioned the excellent recitation of the national anthem and Hamd. He said that it was clear proof of the hard work being done by the centre’s staff, particularly on the speech therapy aspect of the curriculum.
He also hinted to visit the centre at a suitable time.
Referring to the problems and difficulties being faced by the management of the centre in running its affairs, the governor presented a cheque of Rs100,000 to meet its immediate needs. He assured to make efforts for arranging more financial resources.
He said that he would be contacting relevant quarters both at the federal and provincial level to seek a permanent solution for the centre’s difficulties.
Mohammad Azam Khan briefed the governor about the salient features of the achievements of the centre as well as the problems being faced by it.
TENT VILLAGE: A tent village comprising 500 shelters has been set up in village Langra near Havelian for quake survivors, said Abbottabad District Nazim Sardar Haider Zaman, says APP.
The nazim, along with Abbottabad DCO Captain (retd) Munir Azam, was visiting relief camps on Monday to review the arrangements.
The nazim in an official release here said that three rehabilitation centres have been set up in the district for orphans and displaced children.
Mr Zaman said the centres the and tent village would be supervised by District Social Welfare Officer Aurangzeb Abbasi and all the line departments had been directed to make coordinated efforts for the provision of basic amenities to the affected people.
He said that initially the village had been started with 500 tents but the number would increase in the coming days, adding that adequate arrangements had been made to accommodate maximum number of people.
