HARIPUR, Jan 22: As many as 157 more pro-Taliban fighters have been sent to Haripur jail after completion of interrogation by the Pakistani intelligence agencies and FBI in Peshawar and Kohat, raising the number of these prisoners to 309, Dawn learnt here on Monday.

These detainees were nabbed when they were sneaking into Pakistani territory during December. They were shifted in batches to Haripur jail which was already overcrowded.

Initially, 152 fighters were dispatched to Haripur while 157 were brought during the last four days. Among them 46 were Afghans arrested under 40 FCR and remaining 263 apprehended under section 14 Foreign Act.

A dozen of these persons have been shifted to Peshawar jail for their onward transportation to Cuba where these fighters were being questioned by the FBI and other UK-based intelligence.

When contacted an official source at the central jail of Haripur  refused to comment on the matter saying that those shifted to Haripur were still there in their cells.
