KARACHI, Oct 15: The process of admissions to the master’s programme at the University of Karachi was affected due to the strike on Monday.
According to the KU schedule, the process was to begin on Monday with the sale of admission forms at the 11 designated bank branches in the city.
However, the process failed to take off as most of the bank branches did not work properly, while on the other hand students also did not visit the banks for getting application forms and prospectuses, said a KU official.
While the University of Karachi was closed on account of Shab-i-Mairaj on Monday, the BDS supplementary examinations were held according to the schedule. Attendance of staff at the NED University, where the Shab-i-Mairaj holiday was not observed, remained thin, a university officer said.
Meanwhile, statements by the officials of the district education offices regarding the mandatory attendance of staff on Monday created confusion. Normally, 27th of Rajab is observed as a holiday at schools, but the sudden directive from the EDO, Education, and Director (private schools) shocked the staff, students and teachers maintained.
All colleges, affiliated with the University of Karachi, remained closed on Monday on account of the declared holiday.
